As someone who’s written a lot of books, I’ve come to appreciate a few things about the writing process. The first is that no book ever writes itself. I’ve never become so engrossed in a story that I’ve lost track of time or wondered how I was able to get ten more pages written. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m well aware of how many hours I spend at my computer every day!
That said, I can share that some books are easier to write.
I’m not really sure why that is. It’s never the first, second, or third book in a series. It’s not an Amish book or a contemporary romance or a western historical. It’s not even the characters or the plot or the conflict.
It’s just that sometimes everything comes together for some stories more than others.
That’s what happened with AMISH JANE DOE.
AMISH JANE DOE is my second Cold Case novel for Love Inspired. When I first discussed the idea for the book with Johanna, my editor, I was a little hesitant. The book seemed a little too dark for the line. After all, the novel revolves around a detective hoping to solve a case surrounding a murdered Amish girl found in Cincinnati. However, instead of trying to rein me in, Johanna gave me the green light. So, off I went! I wrote the entire novel in about six weeks-and even got to keep my working title for the book.
So, that’s the story about how AMISH JANE DOE came to be. I’m proud of this little book and am so glad that I had the chance to work on another Cold Case book.
I hope y’all will like the book, too.
